Diversity is an interesting subject when it comes to business success. Some companies, like Altria, diversify their products across a number of different areas (i.e. tobacco, food) while others like Procter and Gamble focus on a lot of products but narrow those products to a specific area - products that fit in with our day to day living. Just look at the products that P & G has in it stable:

That is diversity if I ever saw it. The most important aspect however, is that these are not just some random selection of products that P&G has just decided to try to sell. There are very strategic backings to each and every product and the value that it will bring to the organization.

I think that those of us trying to make money on the web through advertising or sales must take P&G’s example into consideration. There must be strategic direction to everything that we try or implement - if there is not then I think that most of us will just flounder around and not make enough to make the time commitment long term.
