I read an interesting post at MattGeri.com about getting banned from Google. I had no idea Google, could or would do this. What are their criteria for banning a site or sites from their listings? Matt’s suggestions for helping to build up a following outside of the search engines are good and I would like to list them here:

Start using pay per click to drive traffic to your websites. This is an awesome way to send traffic to your website fast and also (if done right) profit fast. I use pay per click on a bunch of my sites and there is big profits in it.

Be the number 1 site in your niche. Get people talking about your site, posting about it on forums, talking about it in chat rooms etc.

Go Viral. Viral marketing is an awesome way to grow your website and get hordes of traffic to it! Create little viral games for your site, put up a tell a friend script on your site etc.

Website and Ezine Advertising. Start advertising on other websites in your niche. Contact webmasters and ask them if you can pay for some ad space on their site. Also if they have an ezine or online newsletter, then buy some advertising space in a few issues.

Affiliate Programs. If you sell a product, then get definitely start an affiliate program. Get other people to promote your product for you! Organize joint ventures with other sites to drive traffic to your product pages!

Has anyone else had experience with their sites being blocked - what was Google’s reason? I would love to know.
